About the Artist
Alison Ward is a professional Designer, Artist and Educator, with a career spanning 25 years. Completing HSC/VCE in the early 90's, Alison embarked on employment in the family decorating business. Here, her love of design began, however, this came to an abrupt halt in 1994 with a diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Alison underwent treatment in 1995. After a short remission period, Alison was again re-diagnosed, needing a Bone Marrow Transplant for her survival. In May, 1996, her life-saving transfusion occurred and Alison endured the long road to recovery. It was through this time that she embarked on a healing journey that was both 'creative' and unique, and the subject of patient mentor discussions from this time onward.
Knowing that life would not be the same, Alison began to believe in the Arts as a way of healing and joined classes that were run by a professional artist. This hobby soon turned into a passion, and the beginning of a new career in Design. From here, Teaching in Art and Education was born. With over 2 decades in Interior Decorating, Art Teaching and Design work, Alison returned to university to expand her repertoire with a Bachelor in Contemporary Visual Arts, Masters in Teaching and a Diploma in Art Therapy. With a passion for life and a love of education, Alison continues to push the creative boundaries in her private and professional settings.
Since her illness, Alison became a mother to 3 children against all odds. She is now a step-mother to 2 more adults and is passionate about being a hand's on parent. She lives in a quiet suburb in Melbourne with her husband and family.
